Tuesday, January 4

A tuk tuk us supports at the corner of 240 to lead us "to the night market" or the bus departure is scheduled at 7 pm we start with 30 3 / 4 of an hour late. Okay, no stress ... it is in "fashion Khmer!

Two stops during the 5 hours and some of the journey, Claudie take the opportunity to taste the soup, me? I prefer to avoid any food ... sickness requires bus!

On leaving the bus in the square of one of the many markets in Battambang, we are literally sucked into the tuk tuk and moto dop bearing the list of guest houses and hotels in the city (the drivers do not speak English very rarely ...). We depart from this crowd, I negotiate our way through "green Cabaret" where I had booked 3 nights from France, it is convenient web! We are greeted by Arnaud and his wife in this beautiful little eco-resort. Champagne bubbles in a flute for the perfect home Franco-Khmer ...

"Au Cabaret Green

According to legend, Battambang was founded after a certain Ta Dambong Kranhoung, through the power of a stick Magic, had dethroned the local king. The king's youngest son, who almost burned alive in the clashes, takes refuge in a nearby monastery. After 7 years, 7 months and 7 days the prince returns to the kingdom and meets a Brahmin who asks him to watch his horse in his absence. The horse heals burns the prince, makes you stronger and transports it into the air. Your Dambong Kranhoug launches his stick on the prince but lack the stick disappears. The thief ran away and the prince based his new kingdom in Battambang. Dambang "stick lost" (ref. nl Geo.)
the beautiful statue of Ta Dambong Kranhoung!

The easy solution is to choose the excursions offered by hotels and so be guided rock ... but the wallet prefers negotiating with drivers tuk tuk ...
After a visit to the local market first before we go where we can not do otherwise, it is a permanent attraction for us!

The heat is oppressive. We decide to choose a tuk tuk to drive us out of the famous ballad bamboo train. Opinions are divided: some of those who made it are enthusiastic ... others say: Beware tourist trap ... For we will have a great time of fun and amusement.
$ 5 each without any negotiation, we went for 1 1 / 2 hours of shock, vibration, through beautiful landscapes.

traditional agriculture

fishing

The discovery of this strange machine that goes on tracks dating back to colonial times and not maintained since ...

A platform with slats of bamboo motorized carrying passengers, bikes, goods. Only means of transportation for the villagers but also a tourist attraction!
approach bridges is a moment ... how can I say? disturbing ... we fear the derailment!
And if I say that in addition, this channel is unique in two senses? Well that's how it goes

Back to Cabaret green for an afternoon rest around the natural swimming pool.

the evening we go to the foot of Phnom Sampeu await the flight of thousands of small bats.

This place is also the cave-graves of Khmer Rouge.

Since we come to Cambodia we refuse to visit places of memories of that horrible period. We know ... we do not want to put images in addition to those we know through books, stories by ...
Taking pictures is a pleasure constant set of moments that I love ... that move me ... but just the thought of seeing tourists trigger all-out in these places of torture, pain would make me vomit.

Battambang, the second city in Cambodia today have several markets, old Wat, many relatively well-preserved colonial buildings. The architecture of the city is one of the best preserved of South East Asia.
2 km on the road along the river to the south, just after Kor Wat we visited one of the old houses pchek-hard wood-topped roof terraces. A visit commentary in French by a lady proud of its 71 years who still lives in the house built in 1907 by his grandfather.

Tonight we'll explore the association PHARE Ponleu Selpak
"Lighthouse Ponleu Selpak (PPS), meaning "In light of the art" has its origins in drawing workshops organized in 1986 at Site 2, a refugee camp on the Thai border. These workshops aimed at enhancing the expression des enfants, notamment à travers l'art, afin de dépasser les traumatismes de la guerre et de la vie en camps. En rentrant au Cambodge au début des années quatre-vingt dix, un groupe de jeunes adultes, ayant bénéficié de ces ateliers, décident de poursuivre le travail accompli et fondent formellement une organisation artistique à vocation socio-éducative, Phare Ponleu Selpak, en 1994."
