On leaving the bus in the square of one of the many markets in Battambang, we are literally sucked into the tuk tuk and moto dop bearing the list of guest houses and hotels in the city (the drivers do not speak English very rarely ...). We depart from this crowd, I negotiate our way through "green Cabaret" where I had booked 3 nights from France, it is convenient web! We are greeted by Arnaud and his wife in this beautiful little eco-resort. Champagne bubbles in a flute for the perfect home Franco-Khmer ...

According to legend, Battambang was founded after a certain Ta Dambong Kranhoung, through the power of a stick Magic, had dethroned the local king. The king's youngest son, who almost burned alive in the clashes, takes refuge in a nearby monastery. The heat is oppressive. We decide to choose a tuk tuk to drive us out of the famous ballad bamboo train. Opinions are divided: some of those who made it are enthusiastic ... others say: Beware tourist trap ... For we will have a great time of fun and amusement.
$ 5 each without any negotiation, we went for 1 1 / 2 hours of shock, vibration, through beautiful landscapes.
A platform with slats of bamboo motorized carrying passengers, bikes, goods. Only means of transportation for the villagers but also a tourist attraction!

2 km on the road along the river to the south, just after Kor Wat we visited one of the old houses pchek-hard wood-topped roof terraces. A visit commentary in French by a lady proud of its 71 years who still lives in the house built in 1907 by his grandfather.
This place is also the cave-graves of Khmer Rouge.

Tonight we'll explore the association PHARE Ponleu Selpak
"Lighthouse Ponleu Selpak (PPS), meaning "In light of the art" has its origins in drawing workshops organized in 1986 at Site 2, a refugee camp on the Thai border. These workshops aimed at enhancing the expression des enfants, notamment à travers l'art, afin de dépasser les traumatismes de la guerre et de la vie en camps. En rentrant au Cambodge au début des années quatre-vingt dix, un groupe de jeunes adultes, ayant bénéficié de ces ateliers, décident de poursuivre le travail accompli et fondent formellement une organisation artistique à vocation socio-éducative, Phare Ponleu Selpak, en 1994."
